Course Description
Professional work experience performed as an intern and supervised
both by the employer and by the Computer Science Department. Students
are required to work for an employer for a minimum of 60 hours.

This course is required by all the BS programs in the Computer
Science Department.
Student Learning Outcomes
The learning outcomes of this course support the Department of
Computer Science, the FNAS and the University Wide Outcomes of
Critical Thinking and Problem Solving, Communication, Leadership, and
Values and Ethics. In fact, by the end of an internship a successful
student shall:
1.
Demonstrate good oral communication skills.
2.
Demonstrate good written communication skills by clearly
expressing ideas in writing.
3.
Demonstrate very good overall working performance.
4.
Demonstrate very good overall technical ability.
Course Content
Upon the start of the work experience a document containing objectives
of the Internship is submitted to the instructor.
Biweekly meetings with the course instructor. Also, a student is
required to submit progress reports.
Upon completion of the Internship a CSC 480 student is required to
submit a final report which reflects upon his/her goals, experience
and learned skills.
Supervisors are requested to submit a performance review to the
instructor at the end of the Internship by filling out an “Internship
Evaluation Report” prepared by the department (see Appendix).
Course Activities
*
A minimum of 60 hours of work experience as a trainee. Biweekly
meetings with the course instructor to report progress. Progress
Reports and Final Report to be submitted to the course instructor.
Course Grading
Reports

Internship Objectives. 5%
2.
Signed statement from the employer.
3.
Progress Reports 25%
4.
Final Report 40%
5.
“Internship Evaluation Report” filled in by the employer. 30%
REPORTS:
A.
Project Description. This first report should include the
following:
*
Signed statement from the employer.
*
Internship objectives ( job title, what would you learn from this
internship)
*
Approach ( including software/ hardware you will be using)
*
Timetable (how long will you be working in this position)
Due Date: Thursday, March 24.
B.
Progress Report (40% of final grade)
Due Date: Wednesday 18th of April.
C.
Final Report (60% of final Grade) Due Date: Thursday 14th of June.
The final report should be written in formal English and should
include an abstract, Table Contents, List of figures, List of tables
(if any). It should also include the following:
1.
Chapter 1: Introduction and Company background
1.
Chapter 2: Bibliography of the used technologies
2.
Chapter 3: Computer hardware, Computer Software, Work done as a
trainee, technical problems encountered.
(This chapter should include all the design steps of your project
(such as ER Model, etc.), the execution of your programs. Please note
that all program codes should be included in the appendix and not in
the main report).

Chapter 4: Conclusions.

Submit an “Internship Evaluation Report”. Due Date: Thursday 14th
of June.
This form should be filled in by your employer by the end of your
internship.
