1. Who is required to complete the Limited English Proficient Student
Enrollment Tracking System?
All operating school districts, including charter schools, must submit
data, even if the number is zero.
2. . Are charter schools required to complete the LEP Enrollment
Tracking System?
Yes, charter schools are required to complete this report. Charter
schools are listed in the list of New Jersey schools when you sign
onto the system to complete the report.
3. Are schools required to report on limited English proficient
students who are classified for special education?
Yes, limited English proficient students in grades K-12 who are
classified for special education are included in this report, but only
in the native language count column.
4. Should districts report on the same LEP students in the Limited
English Proficient Student Enrollment Tracking System as they do for
the Application for State School Aid (ASSA)?
For grades K-12, the LEP Student Enrollment System must report the
same number of limited English proficient students as are reported in
the Application for State School Aid (ASSA). Thus, it is important
that the individual(s) collecting and entering the data for both
reports collaborate to assure accuracy in the count. However, since
the LEP Student Enrollment Tracking System now includes special
education and preschool students, the total number of LEP students in
some districts will vary in the two reports.
5. What do I do if the language for which I want to report students is
not listed in the drop box of native language selections on the
screen?
If you cannot locate the language name that you wish to report,
consult the country/language reference document provided on the
Welcome page of the LEP Student Enrollment Tracking System. Look up
the country that the child is from and see what languages are spoken
in that country; it is possible that the language name has spelling
variations or more than one reporting name. If, after consulting the
country/language reference document, you still cannot find the
language for which you wish to report students, e-mail the Office of
Student Achievement and Accountability at [email protected].
6. What do I do if I need to submit additional information, and I have
already finalized my data?
If you need to submit additional information, you may do so. You need
to log in to the system and input the additional data. When you have
finished, save and finalize the data. Your information will be updated
and transmitted to the Department of Education.
